Hatha Yoga

Yoga is a several thousand year old body-mind system originating in India . The word yoga means 'to unite' - body, mind and spirit - and addresses the human need to feel whole. When you feel whole, you feel happy and at peace.

In yoga we use yoga postures (asana), breathing (pranayama) & relaxation techniques, meditation and positive thinking to create balance and harmony in our lives. Yoga postures work upon every muscle, nerve, gland, and organ in the body. Deep breathing and relaxation calms the nervous system and brings deep healing. Meditation and positive thinking create inner peace and a joyful outlook.

Yoga is accessible to anyone: men and women of all ages and abilities. There is no need to be very fit or flexible to attend a yoga class. For pregnant women it is best to attend a specific Yoga for Pregnancy class.

Rose-Marie's Yoga classes

I teach Hatha (pronounced haht-ta) yoga which is the branch of yoga that works primarily with the physical body by blending mind, breath, energy and movement. Like many other teachers, I have developed my own style of yoga, taking the best from a variety of styles like Viniyoga, Iyengar yoga and Asthanga yoga.

I believe that it is very important to release tension and tightness in body and mind before we move into any yoga posture and we will therefore often spend time at the beginning of the class doing gentle movements and breathing to release stiffness and prepare for the class. The breath is used in every posture to further release tension, provide energy and take us deeper into a posture. The class then becomes like a 'moving meditation' where we are fully present in our body. We can then fully enjoy the deep relaxation at the end of the class.

All my mixed ability yoga classes are suitable for all ages and abilities since the postures will be modified according to ability. For the Intermediate class (Mon 6.30pm ) you need one year of experience or more (please telephone me before booking onto this class). Both men and women are very welcome.
